 A computer is one of the greatest invention of mankind it was at a very high speed and performance the following function.

               FUNCTION OF A COMPUTER

 

 Input :

The data and instruction which we enter using a keyboard or a mouse into a computer is called input.

What is the" data":

We can enter number words picture or sound as input this is called data.

Processing:

After entering data and instruction in a computer the CPU works on the given data to give a meaningful information this is called processing.

Output:

when the data is processed in CPU to give Useful information it is known as output.This input process output cycle can be understood with the help of given example.
Suppose you get marks of different subject and want to calculate the total on a computer see how the processing takes place in a computer.

On the basis of total marks the teacher calculate the percentage of a student and find hiss/her position in the class. Likewise we also perform various tasks by following the I.P.O( Input Process Output)cycle. Let us understand it from some day to day life examples.

When your mother prepare a cup of tea what step does she take?

 

Let us take another example:

When you want to talk to your friend on telephone,what steps do you take?

 

                 PARTS OF A COMPUTER

A computer has four main parts which help in performing the IPO cycle.

 1.Keyboard 

A keyboard is the most important part of the computer. It has number of keys on it. We enter information and instruction into the computer using the keyboard. 

2.Monitor 

A monitor looks like a TV screen. It displays all the work that we do on a computer. It also displays the result and movement of the mouse pointer on the screen. A monitor is also known as VDU(Visual Display Unit). The information that we see on a monitor is called soft copy. There are three types of monitors-

1.CRT(Cathode Rays Tube) Monitor:

CRT monitors are bigger in size and consume more power.

2.LCD( Liquid Crystal Display) monitor:

 It is a flat type of computer screen that consume less power. It is in maximum use today.

3.LED (Light Emitting Diode) monitor: 

These monitors have better display. They are thinner and lighter in weight they use 40% less power than LCD and last longer.

3.CPU(Central Processing Unit) 

It is the brain of computer that controls  all parts of the computer system.It does all the Calculation and displays the result on the monitor. It also stores a lot of information

 A CPU is made up of three main part they are:MU,CU,and ALU.

MU(Memory Unit )

This unit store the information or data according to our need the information in the memory can be changed and taken out on the screen when needed.

 CU(Control Unit )

The control unit works like a traffic policeman it controls and manages the working of all the parts of a computer. 

ALU(Arithmetic and Logical Unit)

This unit performs are arthematic calculation like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It also performs logical operation like finding the greater number (>) or a smaller number (<) etc.

4.Mouse

A mouse is a pointing device. It is connected to the CPU by a cable. A mouse usually has two button on it. It is used to point select and move any object on the screen. When we move a mouse with our hand, a pointer on the screen moves in the same direction. It also helps to draw pictures. Nowadays, most often the scroll mouse is in use, which has a wheel in the centre of the two buttons.

5.Printer

A printer prints the information from computer onto a paper. The output printed on paper is called hard copy.

What Mkes a Computer Powerful

1.Speed

A computer works very fast and can do billions of jobs per second.

2.Reliability

Computers are quite reliable they do not make any mistakes.

3.Storage

A computer can store a large amount of data which can be used anytime.

4.Versatility

A computer is a multipurpose machine that performs a variety of tasks and is used in almost all fields.

5.Accuracy

A computer gives accurate result all the time. Most often the error occur from our side.

6.Diligence

A computer can work for long hours without getting tired.

7.multitasking

A computer can do many tasks at the same time.
